The arts agency ARTSCAPE, in collaboration with the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) and the Goethe-Institut Lithuania, invites children aged 6–12 to take part in creative workshops titled “Flags,” led by educators Rasa Patalauskaitė and Robert Ilgen. The workshops will begin with a brief introduction to the exhibition “Bells and Cannons. Contemporary Art in the Face of Militarisation” currently on view at the CAC, which will serve as a starting point for a creative and engaging exploration of symbols that shape identity.

Drawing inspiration from Peter Wächtler’s bronze animal sculptures “Orso” and “Lupo,” children will create imaginary animal “nations” — of bears, wolves, or other fantastical creatures. A child-friendly introduction to the world of flags — their colors, shapes, and meanings — will provide the foundation for designing a flag for their own animal nation. Using scissors and paper, children will create collages and playfully explore how colors and symbols shape identities.

These workshops offer an easy-to-understand, child-friendly way to recognize and empower children’s own ideas in today’s context. At the same time, they provide a great opportunity for children to discover the Contemporary Art Centre in the heart of Vilnius.

WORKSHOP LEADERS

ROBERT ILGEN and RASA PATALAUSKAITĖ are the founders of the TAKTAK studio, which operates at the intersection of architecture and scenography. The studio is based in Vilnius and Thuringia. Since 2017, they have been creating projects across Europe that connect and dissolve the boundaries between these two disciplines. Their work—from pop-up installations and exhibition architecture to sustainably developed architecture—combines creative design with social responsibility, environmental awareness, and active involvement of local communities.

Die Kreativagentur ARTSCAPE lädt, in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) und dem Goethe-Institut Litauen, zu kreativen Workshops mit dem Titel „Flaggen“ für Kinder im Alter von 6 – 12 Jahren ein. Die Workshops werden von den Edukator*innen Rasa Patalauskaitė und Robert Ilgen geleitet.

Zu Beginn erhalten die Kinder eine kurze Einführung in die Ausstellung „Glocken und Kanonen. Zeitgenössische Kunst in Zeiten von Militarisierung“, die derzeit im CAC zu sehen ist. Diese dient als Ausgangspunkt für eine kreative und spielerische Auseinandersetzung mit Identifikationssymbolen.

Inspiriert von den bronzenen Tierskulpturen „Orso“ und „Lupo“ von Peter Wächtler entwickeln die Kinder imaginäre tierische „Nationen“ – von Bären, Wölfen oder anderen fantastischen Wesen. Eine kindgerechte Einführung in die Welt der Flaggen – ihre Farben, Formen und Bedeutungen – bildet die Grundlage für die Gestaltung einer eigenen Flagge für die jeweilige Tiernation. Mit Schere und Papier gestalten die Kinder Collagen und erforschen damit spielerisch, wie Farben und Symbole Identität formen können.

Die Workshops bieten einen leicht verständlichen, kindgerechten Zugang, um die eigenen Ideen der Kinder im heutigen Kontext wahrzunehmen und zu stärken. Gleichzeitig sind sie eine schöne Gelegenheit, das Contemporary Art Centre im Herzen von Vilnius kennenzulernen.
