The exhibition ‘Our Trip Out West’ consists mainly of new works by Pierre Bismuth (b. 1963 Paris, lives and works in London) and Jonathan Monk (b. 1969 Leicester, lives and works in Berlin) ranging from slide projections to postcards, collages, texts and the view behind the window of CAC. It is a first time these artists have made a project of such a scale together. Along the individual works their collaborations related to local context are shown as well.
Pierre Bismuth’s and Jonathan Monk’s works explore similar issues: translation, memory, duration, the impossibility of sameness, different formats of information distribution, everyday life as artistic practice, art history as a source for everyday actions, etc. Similar approaches to similar subjects are stressed in the exhibition, thus transgressing the dichotomies of solo/group show.
