Performance by Marianna Maruyama. Permissions, a.k.a. Loving with Both Hands
2020.03.05 6pm
On Thursday 5th of March from 6pm at the CAC Cinema Hall

At its core, this work hones in on recent changes in privacy law, the GDPR, and the value of consent. It is told in part through the backstory of the enigmatic Japanese pop icon Yamaguchi Momoe, who retired from her hugely successful public life and career at the age of 21 in 1980. The quiet agency of smartphones is strong evidence of the creep of the ‘digital mundane’ and a persistent need for social life. How willing are we to carefully read the terms and conditions of a contract before clicking in agreement? What is abandoned in the process? And how does one exit the conditions of a contract signed without adequate knowledge of its scope?

First time the performance was shown during the opening weekend of the exhibition "Head With Many Thoughts". Video installation by Mariana Maruyama is part of the exhibition and can be visited until 15th of April at CAC Cinema Hall.

Marianna Maruyama is an artist interested in love, labour, and translation.
