As ‘Superglue, or Inventing the Friend’ draws to a close, the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) invites you to join a guided tour of the exhibition with its curator, Valentinas Klimašauskas, and participating artists on Friday 4 September at 6pm.
‘Superglue, or Inventing the Friend’ asks: what kind of glue could hold together today’s fractured society? Is it still possible to establish a relationship with the other? Might this be one of the functions of contemporary art? Drawing on historical and contemporary works, the exhibition reflects on encounters with the other through different notions of otherness, the emergence of the posthuman figure, and contemporary art itself as something not entirely knowable – something foreign.
During the tour, we will explore the exhibition from the perspectives of those who helped bring it into being. The curator will discuss how the exhibition’s concept emerged and took shape, as well as the connections between the works brought together within it. The artists will introduce their own works, reveal the circumstances in which they were created and share insights into their wider artistic practices.
This is an opportunity to hear first-hand the stories behind the exhibition and its works, ask questions and consider what might help us build a relationship with the other today – whether another person, a work of art or contemporary art itself.
