From October 2026 to January 2027 CAC Reading Room invites you to delve deeper into the contexts of contemporary art through the collective exploration of some of the most pressing issues of our time.

We will meet twice a month to discuss a wide range of texts, from art theory and philosophy to fiction and artists’ writings. Some meetings will feature guest speakers – including authors, exhibition curators, artists, art historians, and critics – who will help us gain a deeper understanding of the texts. CAC Book Club will explore themes related to Lina Lapelytė’s and Agnieszka Polska’s exhibitions, on view during this period.

In the context of Agnieszka Polska’s exhibition, imagined relations encompass human relationships with technology, time, and the planet. In her text ‘Future Paracosms and Their Infrastructures’, Agnieszka Polska observes the increasingly widespread reproduction of familiar narratives and questions whether we will have sufficient creativity to work alongside artificial intelligence. Through texts that develop the themes of her exhibition ‘Horror Desire Fantasy’, we will explore the philosophy of imagination and contemporary storytelling technologies, asking how contemporary technologies affect human creativity.

In the context of Lina Lapelytė’s exhibition, imagined relations take on the nuances of (im)possible interpersonal relationships. Asking how such relationships might form the basis of artistic practice, we will examine the differences between collaborative, community-based, and socially engaged art. We will also touch on broader questions concerning the human relationship with oneself, the Other, and the divine. We will read excerpts from books recommended by Lina Lapelytė and discuss them with the exhibition curators, Virginija Januškevičiūtė and Aistė Liuka Jonynaitė.

The meetings will be held in English and moderated by Miglė Markulytė, curator of the CAC Reading Room.
