Join our guides to explore the exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC)!
The tours introduce two exhibitions currently on view at CAC: Lina Lapelytė’s ‘Gatherings’ and Agnieszka Polska’s ‘Horror Desire Fantasy’.
The exhibition ‘Gatherings’ brings together works by artist and composer Lina Lapelytė made at different periods in her practice, presenting them in a single space for the first time. Its title also points to the importance of togetherness and a sense of community in her work. How might our relationships with one another change if we listened more closely to those around us and to our surroundings, and viewed our everyday rituals, rules and coincidences through a poetic lens? Lapelytė explores the relationship between voice, music, performance and listening, while also experimenting with different spatial situations.
The exhibition ‘Horror Desire Fantasy’ brings together works made by Agnieszka Polska from 2014 to the present. The selection highlights her use of found images and computer-generated media to reflect on the individual and their social responsibility. She renders the ethical and societal challenges of our time through immersive, meditative films and installations with a palpable emotional resonance. Often constructed from affective sound and visual stimuli, her works examine processes of influence and legitimation in the fields of language, consciousness and history.
Tours with CAC guides offer an excellent way to gain a concise introduction to the ideas behind both exhibitions, which are distinct in form yet overlap thematically. They act as an exercise for the eye and mind, encouraging not only observation but also engagement with the artworks, their choreography and the stories they tell.
