The Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) invites visitors to explore the exhibition ‘Superglue, or Inventing the Friend’.
This international group exhibition inaugurates the exhibition programme under its new director Valentinas Klimašauskas and invites a reconsideration of the CAC’s relationship with its audience. It explores themes of identity formation, connection with others, and the role of contemporary art in the face of growing global polarisation and fragmentation. Bringing together historical and contemporary works, it raises the question: what kind of glue today could bind together a fragmented society? Is it still possible to establish a relationship with the other? Might this be one of the functions of contemporary art? Finally: how, despite everything, can we become friends?
Tours with CAC guides offer an excellent way to gain a concise introduction to the ideas behind both exhibitions, which are distinct in form yet overlap thematically. They act as an exercise for the eye and mind, encouraging not only observation but also engagement with the artworks, their choreography and the stories they tell.
