On 16–17 May, the architecture festival Open House Vilnius will once again open the doors to some of the city’s most distinctive spaces, inviting visitors to discover Vilnius architecture and the people who shape the city. Among more than 70 sites in this year’s programme is the building of the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC).
Tours of the CAC building will introduce visitors to the former Exhibition Palace, designed in the 1960s by architect Vytautas Edmundas Čekanauskas and now recognised as one of the most memorable examples of Lithuanian modernist architecture. In summer 2024, the CAC building began a new chapter: its technical infrastructure and interiors were extensively renovated. The project was carried out with great care by architects Audrius and Marina Bučas, with close attention to the architectural legacy of both Čekanauskas and Valdas Ozarinskas, CAC’s long-standing institutional architect.
The history of the building will be introduced during tours led by the festival’s volunteer guides.
Tour times :
- 16 May, Saturday, 11:00–20:00 (last tour starts at 19:00)
- 17 May, Sunday, 11:00–18:00 (last tour starts at 17:00)
Tour duration: 45 min.
Tours take place every 30 min.
The Open House Vilnius programme will also include an educational activity for children and teenagers – the creative workshop ‘Faces in the City’, inviting participants to look at architecture through the lens of imagination and emotion. During the session, participants will explore the urban environment by searching for “faces” hidden in buildings: windows, doors and balconies will become eyes, mouths and expressions of different moods.
The educational workshop will take place in the Reading Room of the Contemporary Art Centre.
Workshop times:
- 16 May, Saturday, 11:00–13:00
- 17 May, Sunday, 11:00–13:00
Children taking part in the workshop will need a parent or guardian’s consent, which can be signed on arrival. Parents and guardians are also welcome to join the workshop together with their children.

Participation is free and no advance registration is required. The event is open to everyone!
