In this exhibition, improvisations on the theme of beauty were presented by a group of Lithuanian artists. In the curators’ words, ‘it is tricky to establish the genetic origin of the appearance of a work of art. However, bearing in mind the set of definitions of beauty existing in culture, nearly all works of art can be interpreted as an expression of a certain concept of beauty.’

The works in this exhibition were sociologically and ideologically engaged. By juxtaposing works of art from different periods, generations and styles, the curators established a kind of polylogue to try and understand how the concept
of beauty was changing in Lithuanian art, and to reveal their attitudes to tradition and innovation.
