PROJECT SUMMARY

The Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius is the largest institution in the Baltic States dedicated to exhibitions of contemporary art. It specialises in presenting the most recent, relevant, and experimental artistic practices by artists from Lithuania and around the world, and organises large-scale international contemporary art events. The CAC is implementing the investment project *Modernisation of the Contemporary Art Centre* under Measure No. 07.1.1-CPVA-V-304 ‘Modernisation of Cultural Infrastructure’ of Priority 7, ‘Promoting Quality Employment and Participation in the Labour Market’, and Measure No. 04.3.1-VIPA-T-113 ‘Renovation of State-Owned Buildings (II)’ of Priority 4, ‘Promoting Energy Efficiency and the Production and Use of Energy from Renewable Sources’, of the 2014–2020 Operational Programme for European Union Funds’ Investments.

The project aims to improve the quality and accessibility of cultural services provided at the Contemporary Art Centre by introducing new energy-efficiency measures. To achieve this aim, it is necessary to modernise the Contemporary Art Centre’s infrastructure. The project’s target groups include visitors from Lithuania and abroad, artists, exhibition participants, curators, and the institution’s staff. The project is being implemented using the Contemporary Art Centre’s internal human resources and with the involvement of specialists and experts from other institutions. During the implementation of the project, the building’s heating and electrical systems will be modernised, and fire safety, sewage, and ventilation systems will be upgraded. Windows and doors will be replaced, while the building’s walls, roof, and floor slabs will be insulated. Exhibition and auxiliary spaces will be renovated, and the cinema and conference halls, storage areas, and other support facilities will be modernised. Existing video and audio equipment will be upgraded, and new equipment will be acquired for the wood and metal workshops (intended for exhibition preparation and installation, and for preparing exhibits and spaces for exhibitions and events). Successful implementation of the project will increase visitors numbers and the amount of time spent at the centre, improve access to existing and new services, enable the proper presentation and preservation of artworks, increase the number of events and allow for the organisation of competitive programmes, create better conditions for renowned artists to produce and present their work, and improve working conditions for the centre’s staff.
