On Friday, 9th November, 7 pm the third from the series of introductory events to the exhibition “A Summer Vocation of a Teenage Bee” which will open on 9th February, 2018 at the Contemporary Art Centre, will take place. On this occasion, the artist Anna-Sophie Berger will give a lecture titled „Any Thing Inc.“ at the CAC Cinema Hall.
Anna-Sophie Berger (b.1989) creates work that connects individual perception and intimate use with questions of material reality as part of socio-economic circulation and consumption. Populating body as much as space, her objects freely traverse sites and systems of value, physical and through image. While preserving this mobility they complicate a reading as discrete objects, emcompassing elements of material transience such as decay, malleability or modularity. Her works examine the complexity of human desire: the ambiguity of a sensual need to yield and a conscious effort to resist. Berger has presented solo exhibitions at: MUMOK, Vienna; Kunsthaus Bregenz;21Haus, Vienna; Frieze, New York; JTT, New York and Prince of Wales, Munich. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at: MUMOK, Vienna; Carl Louie, Ontario; Lodos, Mexico City; Rogaland Kunstsenter, Stavanger; Salzburger Kunstverein; 9th Berlin Biennial; Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City; Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien KM-, Graz. She ist the recipient of the ars viva award 2018 which will include exhibitions at the Kunstverein Munich and the SMAK in Gent.
Anna-Sophie Berger lives and works in New York and Munich.
