V. GARSŲ KNYGOS | BOOKS OF SOUNDS
Stalo teatras | Table Theatre (Saulė Degutytė, Snieguolė Dikčiūtė, Raima Drąsutytė)
„Pievos“
veiksmo muzikos ir ebru tapybos spektaklis-patyrimas | experience-play of action music and ebru painting

In the play “Pievos” three women artists tell stories of life, share the emotions and feelings. Instead of talking they use a means of art therapy: music improvisation, a charming mixture of colours and plastic art movements. The music is developed with a help of an electric violin and a theremin, the latter is being played without touching it, which makes this performance very theatrical. During the play the theremin reacts to the movements of Raima Drąsutytė, who is not only a professional sculptor, but also a movement therapy specialist and Chinese tai-chi trainer. Her movements are based on the inner emotions and the artist makes sounds, that eventually are combined with Snieguolė Dikčiūtė’s, a composer and music therapy specialist, violin melodies (performed by the composer herself) and rhythms. Valdas Narkevičius, a sound director, adds a sophisticated sound design “here and now”.
The ebru painting is being created on the spot using special and natural paints that are applied directly on the water with seaweed. Later it is transferred on the surface of paper, ceramics, wood, fabrics, glass etc. The traditional ebru paints are not transparent, which means that only few people can admire the work. But during the performance artists use a specific paint technique and an overhead projector so that the audience could enjoy Saulė Degutytė paintings.

“If you feel your emotions in every possible way, they flow through you like a river. If you deny or block them, they might remind you of themselves through a physical pain or turn outwards in a destructive way. During this performance we say YES to our emotional experience, whatever it might be… This is symbolized by the flower at the end of the episode. The sound, the visual and the movement – they are great means to help safely express your emotions and understand them.”

“Stalo teatras” (Table Theatre) was established in 2004. During the theatrical performance a variety of objects is being used. The objects, that are brought back to life during the show, get characters’ faces, voices and fates, and thus the performance becomes an object theatre.
“Stalo Teatras” uses only live music in its shows – a subtle way of giving sound to the action. Sometimes music even becomes a separate character and that strengthens connection with the audience and expands means of artistic expression. “Stalo Teatras” shows are distinguished by their originality, by diversity of solutions, and each time by their live-interactive performance.

Saulė Degutytė (g. 1969 m.) – is a founder, director and actress of an unconventional “Table theatre”, who together with like-minded colleagues creates somewhat called an object theatre. The first play she created was “Eglė the Queen of Serpents” (2005), which was performed during the international puppet theatre festival awarded for the directing. In 2010 and 2014 Degutytė was nominated and awarded for the best puppet theatre plays “Gandro dovana“ and „Tarmių stalas“ during the „Auksinio scenos kryžiaus” award ceremony.

In her works, Snieguolė Dikčiūtė (b. 1966) displays an evocative blend of constructive elements (those based on numerical symbolism and the like) and figurative language of metaphors. The composer is keen on writing music for unconventional combinations of instruments, both electronic and acoustic, and synthesizing of different art forms such as visual media, acting and theatre. To achieve this, she often collaborated with jazz musicians, visual and video artists, actors and theatre directors. Her recent activities include music therapy and involvement of handicapped children into the process of music-making.

VI. GARSŲ SAPNAI | THE DREAMS OF SOUNDS
Džiugas Katinas
„Sapnai“
muzikinis meninės dokumentikos filmas | artistic musical documentary

Susapnuota Mendelejevo periodinė elementų lentelė, senovės Egipte samdomi pranašai, gebantys susapnuoti ateitį, sapnų joga, S. Freudo ir C. G. Jungo psichoanalizė… Kas visa tai jungia? Sunku pasakyti, arba tai yra labai asmeniška.
Šio muzikinės meninės dokumentikos filmo centre – pokalbiai apie sapnus ir (pa)sąmonės procesus su įdomiausiais Lietuvos teatro kompozitoriais: Vidmantu Bartuliu, Algirdu Martinaičiu, Faustu Latėnu, Antanu Jasenka ir Giedriumi Puskunigiu. Sapnas, realybė ir muzika susipina netradicinėje aplinkoje išnyrančiose muzikinėse vizijose. Filme skamba autentiška kompozitorių muzika ir kūrėjų tekstai… Susapnuoti, o gal išgalvoti?..

Filme skambantys kūriniai:
Vidmantas Bartulis – „Palydžiu iškeliaujantį draugą ir mes paskutinį kartą žiūrime į apsnigtus vasario medžius…“
Algirdas Martinaitis – „Nebaigtoji simfonija“
Faustas Latėnas – „Conversation with the soul“

The periodic table dreamt by Dmitri Mendeleev, the prophecy tellers in ancient Egypt, who were able to dream the future, dream yoga, Sigmund Freud and Carl Gustav Jung psychoanalysis… What does connect all of this? It is hard to say, or maybe it is simply very personal.
In the centre of this artistic musical documentary are conversation about the dreams and the (un)conscious with interesting Lithuanian theatre composers: Vidmantas Bartulis, Algirdas Martinaitis, Faustas Latėnas, Antanas Jasenka and Giedrius Puskunigis. The dream, the reality and music intertwine in the untraditional surroundings, which pop out in the musical visions. The music and text used in the documentary is written by the composers… To dream, or to imagine?…

Music used in the documentary:
Vidmantas Bartulis – “I’m Seeing My Friend Off and We Are Taking the Last Look at the Snow-covered February Trees…”
Algirdas Martinaits – “Unfinished symphony”
Faustas Latėnas – “Conversation with the soul“
Giedrius Puskunigis – music from the play “Crime and punishment “ (dir. Gintaras Varnas) and “The Taming of the Shrew “ (dir. Cezaris Graužinis)
Antanas Jasenka – music from the play “The Cathedral” (dir. Oskaras Koršunovas) and “Beauties” (dir. Agnė Dilytė)

VII. GARSŲ TEATRAS | SOUND THEATRE
Gamut Inc (Marion Wörle, Maciej Sledziecki)
„automata | electronics“
muzika muzikinėms mašinoms physharmonica p2, bowjo b1 ir carillon c3 | music for the music machines physharmonica p2, bowjo b1 and carillon c3

Gamut Inc 2011 m.

Carillon C3
Instrumentą sudaro 16 įmagnetintų metalinių lentelių, paimtų iš senelio laikrodžių, kurios sumontuotos medinėje sulankstomoje dėžėje. Pastaroji yra ir rezonatorius, ir transportavimo dėžė.

Gamut Inc was founded 2011 by Marion Wörle aka Frau W and Maciej Sledziecki, to explore the interaction of electronic and instrumental music. They performed pieces ranging from the Polish Radio Experimental Studio to the electronic studio of the WDR in Poland and Germany, as well as play their own repertoire. 2013 they were funded by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes to build music machines, that are modeled after early musical instruments, but computer-controlled. Since then artists develop a growing number of unique instruments, which are focused on sonic textures. For that purpose they developed special software, that controls machines live. Moreover, they use different forms of live-generated music-scores to enable different degrees of composition and live-improvisation between the machines and musicians.

For the Jauna Muzika Festival gamut inc is planning a composition with a setup of modular sonic modules driven by air, hammers and magnets. Depending on the modes of the room the material will be processed live to a melange of real-sounding sources and electronic feedbacks.

Physharmonica P2
With physharmonica not only notes can be automated, but also the stops can be adjusted continuously from silence to full tone, allowing mixtures of different stops similar to an electronic filter. The further developed machine P2 allows access even to different levels of wind strength. Special devices give opportunity to explore the modulation of air in multiple ways.

Bowjo B1
It concerns the electro-magnetic fields, that are generated by an elbow to drive the string. To say it simply, three pairs of strings are driven by electro-magnetic fields. The position of the magnets as well as their strength can be controlled from the software, and allows complex sonic textures. The predestor is the monochord: simply a string on a wooden resonator.

Carillon C3

It has 16 solenoid-driven notes metal bars, taken from grandfather’s clocks, that are put in a wooden, foldable box, which is the resonator and transport box at the same time.

Marion Wörle (Frau W) yra Berlyne gyvenanati kompiuterinės muzikos atstovė, studijavusi architektūrą.
